| Recording the Area of Residual Vision |
 |
 |
 |
An exact measurement of the central
field of vision will establish where within the
area of the damaged field of vision there is residual
vision. This area is generally found between the
intact and damaged visual field. |

In order to reliably record the
areas of residual vision that will respond to training,
the patient's central 30° field of vision is
precisely measured. (The grids below show white
-light stimulus recognised; black - light stimulus
not recognised). |
 |
 |
 |
By overlaying the HRP the transition
point between intact and defective vision loss can
be identified (grey shading, see figure 4), pointing
to the existence of residual vision that will respond
to training. |

The results of this initial diagnostic
test establish the basis for the individual customised
therapy programme. According to individual patient
needs and goals the programme parameters, such as
size, shape, colour and length of light stimulus
etc will be customised for each patient. |
